Embrace autumn in Exeter

As autumn settles into Exeter, it’s the perfect time to embrace the season’s cosy vibes. The crisp air, vibrant leaves, and golden sunlight create an ideal atmosphere for enjoying activities at home and exploring the best spots around town. I'm Remie and I'm back to share some of my favourite ways to enjoy the autumn months.

  1. Stroll through the quayside: It goes without saying the quay is a picturesque location throughout the year, but there is something particularly enchanting about it during autumn. As the trees along the river turn vibrant red and orange, a walk along the quay feels like stepping into a painting. Stop by one of the cafes like the Quayside Coffee or On the Waterfront and enjoy a hot drink whilst people watching.

  1. Treat yourself to a Café Day: Autumn is the perfect season to curl up with a cup of coffee or tea and indulge in the cosy, romantic atmosphere of a café. Lucky for you, Exeter is home to several charming cafes perfect for this. The Glorious Art House, with its vibrant interior, feels like a warm welcoming hung on a chilly day. The Exploding Bakery is another favourite of mine, offering fantastic coffee and irresistible baked goods.

  1. Visit the RAMM: The Royal Albert Memorial Museum (RAMM) is perfect for those days when you want to stay indoors yet immerse yourself in culture. Spend an afternoon exploring the exhibitions and collections, ranging from local history to global artefacts.

  1. Visit a pub to warm yourself up: There’s nothing quite like hearty pub comfort food and a pint to create the perfect evening. Whether you’re meeting friends for a catch up or just fancy a quiet evening the selection of pubs in Exeter is endless. A few of my favourite include The Old Firehouse, Henry’s and Turk’s head.

  1. Watch the Sunset from the Cathedral Green: The large open space surrounded by the ancient Cathedral and other buildings makes it the perfect spot to watch the sunset as it casts a warm glow over the area. Pack a blanket (or several), a warm drink and some snacks to accompany this ideal autumn activity.
  1. Give It A Go: The Guild offers weekly activities that can help you keep yourself busy. This October we have Day trips to neighbouring towns, a trip to Darts Farm pumpkin patch, pumpkin carving and a big movie night for Halloween. See all events

Autumn is a time to slow down, enjoy the changing landscape and indulge in all the comforting activities that come with the season. Take advantage of this special time of the year and explore all that Exeter has to offer!
