What does an elected Officer do?

You’ve seen their faces around campuses, and you’ve heard us talk about Officers – but what do they actually do? Think it's all meetings and emails? Think again! Read on to hear about the highs and lows of our Full-Time Officer roles.  

  • What is an Officer anyway?  

The Guild Full-Time Officer Team are 5 elected students who work as employees of the Guild to represent all students and influence change across the Guild, University, Exeter and Nationally. They are trustees of the organisation and can influence the work and strategy of the Guild.  

  • What are the perks?  

This is a very unique graduate job which will give you some skills and experiences to really stand out from the crowd in any future industry. You’ll get:

  • What do Officers do?  

The role of an Officer is very varied, and unique to each role. You can read the different remits and role descriptions on this webpage.  Often days involve attending University meetings, speaking to students about ideas and projects, and working with Guild staff to shape projects and campaigns. Previous officers have run campaigns on drugs harm reduction, safer walking routes, cheaper food on campus and decolonising the curriculum. Our Officers have shaped mental health charters and NHS plan submissions, always making sure that the needs of students at at the forefront of policymaking.   Read Officers Term 1 Wins!

  • Visit students’ unions across the UK and further afield  
  • Judge Guild staff baking competitions
  • Dress as a mobile phone during exam season
  • Make friends for life with your fellow Officers  
  • Attend awards ceremonies, drinks receptions and events with Uni senior leaders (great for networking!)
