Guild Advisory Board – 27/11/23 Summary for students
The Guild Advisory Board received updates from Pip, our Student Living Officer, and Rhys, our Societies and Employability Officer, which included:
• Updating on Cost of Living work around short and long-term affordability of student life, and updated how we are helping students navigate the housing market, including through Flat mate finders.
• Updating on the Have Your Say platform promotion that has taken place, and what work has been done the University to curate joint provision of employability events with Faculties and CareerZone.
The Board took the opportunity to ask our Officers some questions about specifics of their work, some of which are below:
What work is being undertaken around the new pricing of buses?
Pip is in contact with Stagecoach (bus provider) and the University to identify solutions and what can be done to make buses both more affordable and regular.
What is the aim of the Big Society Hello 2?
To create a chance to revitalise connections between University professional services and Societies and provide an open forum for feedback and networking.
The Guild’s Head of Student Engagement presented a performance snapshot of our engagement with students. This included updates on our newly collected engagement data, Guild Life Participation, and our performance on our KPIs.
The Advisory Board, whose role is to hold the Guild to account on our delivery for students, asked for clarification around data bias and data collection. The Guild Advisory Board also suggested priming the Survey Superheroes panel with updates on Officer actions before asking them whether they feel represented.
Our final item was on Events – something that students have identified as a Priority for the Guild. The Guild Advisory Board was taken through our recent Events history since 2020 and where we have got to today, the data we have collected from students about our events this year, and our approach for the rest of the academic year. The Board were asked to evaluate the proposed focus; co-creating events with students and student staff, being data-led, undertaking a review of on-campus events, and more. The Board were supportive of the approach and asked:
How Societies can get involved with GIAG?
It works both ways, with staff reaching out to relevant societies, but if societies are keen to get involved with a GIAG – just get in touch!
How does the Guild plan to get more view about events from students?
We’re exploring how we can reduce the barrier for students to give feedback, through one click responses and other marketing solutions.
