See your impact

Your Officers

It’s been a busy time for your Officers, who are always working to represent all Exeter students. Here is an update on their priorities and progress this term:

Alex

Most proud of: writing the student submission to the University’s mental health award charter application. It is so important we hold the University to account on the areas they need to improve in supporting mental health.

Creating change for students:  The work I’ve done to build our relationship with local and national government which the Guild has lacked in previous years. We have been working more with Steve Race MP for Exeter and the city council because it’s so important that students are represented in government decisions that will have huge impacts on their lives.

Favourite memory: Definitely Welcome Week! It was amazing to see so many new students exploring Exeter for the first time and our whole community coming together to welcome them.

Seb

Most proud of: Definitely all the work I've done around Assessment & Feedback. Getting the University to agree on real tangible actions has felt so empowering. And to make it that tiny bit better, all those discussions were led and shaped by student feedback!

Creating change for students: Not to double up, the progress with Assessment & Feedback *if done right* will be monumental to the student experience. Not only did we progress recommendations on marking consistency, marking criteria and co-creation, but we also directly discussed the introduction of 7-day mitigation alongside reviewing the timely feedback policy.

Favourite memory: We did so much this term, so it's really hard to decide! I definitely think the most memorable was helping out at the Feed Your Flat event. It was so much fun chatting with students, giving out meals and juggling (or at least attempting to) some onions.

India

Most proud of:  working with the Career Zone on their Widening Participation Showcase

Creating change for students: I’ve worked with Kira to lobby the University to get menstrual products in the Old Library!

Favourite memory: My favourite memories from this term definitely have to be Welcome Week and working with the Uni Boob Team society on their breast cancer awareness month campaign!

Kira

Most proud of: leading on our 16 Days of Activism campaign, especially filming our officer podcast- it was lovely getting to speak to the officers about feminism, safety in Exeter, and activist causes

Creating change for students: I’ve worked to start auditing our commercial outlets and ensure food is accessible and affordable for all students!

Favourite memory: mine has to be Welcome Week... the weather was gorgeous, it was great to see lots of my friends again, and we got so many opportunities to chat to students!

Thomas

Most proud of: I think it would have to be the Government work I contributed to through the Guild and the NUS! This included, talking to Exeter’s MP about international student visas, meeting a city councillor on community events and public transport, contributing to the guarantor abolishment campaign, and submitting recommendations to the NHS’s 10-year plan using student health data to advocate for more services on campus health centres.

Creating change for students: I’ve made progress on working with the University, reminding them to keep accessibility at the heart of decision-making, with continuing to push for more progress on accessible floorplan maps, lowering barriers to accessing services like wellbeing, and bringing our Neurodivergent and Disabled Students society into discussions about new building plans.

Favourite memory: It has to be getting to know the team at the Guild more. Everyone’s job here is to try and make the student experience better, and it shows! They’re also a fun bunch!

Your Officer Team with Exeter MP, Steve Race.

We hope you’ve enjoyed term 1 as much as we have, we can’t wait to see you in term 2.

Enjoy your winter break!
