Hi, I’m Kirsty, Social Publicity Secretary for Be the Change Society—a student-led movement focused on sustainability campaigning. Right now, our mission is clear: make the University more environmentally friendly and inspire students to take action
Campaigning to make campus and her community more sustainable– because every small action adds up.
As a Geography student, I care deeply about sustainability. But beyond academics, the climate crisis is one of the biggest challenges we face. Even small changes—whether on campus or in our daily habits—can create a ripple effect, inspiring more people to take action and amplify the impact.
One of the most rewarding parts of this journey has been Sustainable Sundays—our initiative to raise awareness about environmental issues and community projects.
Beyond sustainability, this work has helped build a strong community. Through collaborations—like our event with the Open Water Swimming Society—we’ve brought students together over a shared passion for the environment. It’s about more than activism—it’s about friendships, shared experiences, and a collective movement toward change.
One thing that shocked me is just how much influence we actually have. Right now, we’re working with societies to change their stash suppliers to more ethical and sustainable options.
There are so many opportunities—whether through Be the Change Society or other University initiatives. Sometimes, all it takes is attending one event to spark a bigger journey. Take that first step—you never know how much of an impact you could have.
